We are so excited to be starting our blog again for the 2017-2018 school year! We are in the swing of things here at Dwight and are excited to share with you what we have been working on so far this year!
EAL BY THE NUMBERS:
We speak 11 different languages! Portuguese, Chinese, Norwegian, Japanese, Dutch, German, Hebrew, French, Russian, Spanish, and Danish.
We have lived in 9 different countries! China, Brazil, Norway, Singapore, Bangladesh, Australia, Portugal, Denmark, and of course the USA.
We dream in 11 different languages!
We have 48 students in the EAL program. We have 15 students in Timothy House, 16 in Bentley House, 9 in Franklin House, and 8 in Anglo House.
We ave 16 new students this year!
Our hobbies include: playing the piano, playing soccer, listening to music, using technology, PE class, eating sushi, hanging out with family, looking at train schedules and maps, doing acrobatics, horseback riding, ice skating, dancing, playing basketball, playing with marbles, doing puzzles, playing video games, and making art.
In 1st grade, students made “About Me” books to start off their Who We Are unit and get to know each other.
In 2nd – 5th grade, students took a quiz to find out their spirit animal and then picked out adjectives that they had in common with their spirit animal.
6th graders have been reading spooky short stories including “Tell Tale Heart”, “The Raven” and “Death of Red Mask” by Edgar Allen Poe. They explored Poe’s eerie style and scary vocabulary in time for Halloween.
