Impromptu Speeches Reflection

About what I did well…

The thing I did well was that during the speech I have used my personal example to explained my point. Also I have used several transition words, such as moreover, also, etc when I had two or more points. Another thing that I did well was that even though I’ve paused for several times, I continued to finish my speech until the time was up.  Furthermore, I did well on the pace that I spoke, which was not too fast and not too slow.

About What I need to practice for…

I need to practice for the voice that I spoke, that I need to speak more loudly. Moreover, I need to practice my pronunciation and expression, that I have different tones under different conditions.  Eye contact is another thing that I ned to practice, that I need to look at the camera / audiences when I  was talking.  Also I have many pauses during my speeches, so I need to think faster during the 15 seconds of preparation.

1. There are four faces appear in the photo. The “main character”/ the focus is the baby in the middle, with blue cloths and gree shoses / socks. The baby looks calm but more likely he doesn’t know what’s happening. There are three women stand behind the wires, they are sending the baby across the wire and there’s a hand catching the baby from them. The emotion that the woman has in the middle is kind of struggled. The mountains and the blue sky is the background of the photo and the weather is likely to be fall.

2. It was October 2nd, 1994, and the scene was taken at the border of Mexico and United State. The weather was pretty that day, wind blew and the sky was clear that on could see though it. The light shined the mountains and made it looks much greener and magnificent. It was a special day; it was the day that changed my life. As being the only boy in the family, the parents decided to sent me out of the small village in Mexico and went to United State fir a better education and life. Since our family were in poverty and there was not enough money for us to move to the country. They used all of their money and relations to helped me get out of the place.

Reflect on your first few days as a 10th grader.

I felt different this year, because there was a big change with my classmates and teachers, that I was not familiar with many of them. Therefore, I wasn’t feeling very comfortable in the classes for the first few days of school, and I was still striving to fit in. Compare to last year, I thought the work I had this year was much heavier, and also my schedule was tighter than before. Since it was one more step toward graduation, there was much more pressure this year, that I need to pay effort to earn good grades. Moreover, the Personal Project was another thing, which made my school life tougher. I  wanted to create an interesting project and I need to put  my energy on it at the same time. However, fortunately I was not the only Chinese in our grade this year, which was a really good news for me. At last, I want to say,” I am not ready to become a sophomore!”

What did you do over the long weekend?

I spent the long weekend at home and I  did almost nothing during this weekend, except homework.  However there was one thing I did which was quite meaningful, that I have met Ziyi on Friday after school. It was my first time talk with her after she became a freshman in NYU. She has not changed a lot, besides her hair was much longer than before. We had dinner in a Japanese restaurant around her school, which named Cha’An. We have talked a lot about  our new school year, and I learned that she has made numbers of new friends in the university. After dinner we went to her dorm. Unfortunately, since I did’t bring my ID,  I could not get into her dorm, which was a big shame for me. However, I was so glad to met  her again, and I was delighted that our friendship didn’t change as time past.
